An Introduction to Commonhold for Property Professionals
Speaker
Introduction
Commonhold is an alternative property ownership tenure to leasehold, and is currently undergoing significant reform following the Law Commission’s review in 2020. The Government has repeatedly committed to banning the sale of leasehold flats and houses, with commonhold being the preferred tenure going forward. The Government released a Commonhold White Paper in Spring 2025 setting out how they intend to implement commonhold. A draft Leasehold and Commonhold Reform Bill is expected in 2025 to implement those proposals.
This virtual classroom seminar provides an overview of the current commonhold system, the proposals for the new commonhold system, and next steps for the reforms. If the draft Bill has been released before this session, the session will also look at the draft Bill.
