Introduction

Over 380,000 Taxi and PHV drivers are licensed to operate in England & Wales, a number which steadily increases each year. This in turn results in growing scrutiny from Licensing Authorities, a rising number of drivers being on the wrong end of regulatory investigations, and more drivers at risk of their Taxi/PHV licences being revoked.

Providing regulatory advice to revoked drivers is a growing area of practice, and one which can be rewarding and lucrative with sufficient knowledge and expertise. Given the importance of a licence to a Taxi/PHV Driver, taking legal advice as to their rights and options is often a necessity to avoid the extraordinarily damaging impact of a revocation or adverse regulatory decision.

This interactive session will give an overview and understanding of the relevant law and procedure governing Taxi/PHV licensing and in particular revocations. Providing practitioners with practical tips and examples on how to advise clients in respect of their rights to make representations to the Licensing Authority/Licensing Sub-Committee, and appeal revocation decisions through the Magistrates’ Court and beyond.
